The Thaler-Lader 2438 L/S/H is the successor of our very successful Model 2238 in the category of approx. 2 tons operating weight with 38 HP, and therefore the 2438 is the first model in our product range on which the new EU exhaust gas emission standard of level V = Stage V applies. In other words: the 38 HP Yanmar engine is equipped with common rail injection technology and EGR, and for exhaust gas treatment with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a diesel particle filter (DPF). It only achieves these strict emission levels of Stage V via DOC + DPF, however without Ad-Blue. The whole engine management is controlled by an ECU Electronic Control Unit made by Yanmar. The exhaust gas treatment technology is maintenance-free for 6000 operating hours, that is Yanmar’s proper trust and confidence in their own exhaust gas treatment technology.
All these components and technology needed more space, so we decided to extend the rear chassis. Pleasant and positive effects are:
-
The rear chassis has become approx. 180 kg heavier = higher tipping loads
-
Rear chassis has become approx. 17 cm longer = additional increase in tipping loads due to the better lever ratio
-
The minimum width of 112 cm remains the same = good for the passage of gates and doors
-
Modern outfit with the new rear hood made of GRP = it just looks simply good
So, the 2438 will keep its usual agility and responsiveness. The exhaust gas treatment system has made it quieter and therefore even more comfortable and less tiring to work with.
Another tip: Compare the power-to-weight-ratio (specific power) of loaders in general : KW per ton (1000 kg) operating weight, for the 2438S (38 HP / 28.2KW) it is 13.89 KW per 1000 KG operating weight, this is the top value in the category of 2-ton wheel loaders.
We have paid special attention within our product range; we want to maintain the graduation of engine power (KW or HP) and operating weights for the entire range of our loaders and in consequence continue the successful times for the 2438 and the other models.
Concerning the drive line of the 2438 everything has remained the same, both in terms of the reliable quality components and the set-up: the hydrostat is flanged to the engine and a transfer gear box brings the power from the rear axle via cardan shaft to the front axle. You can identify easily the cardan shaft linking the axles of both chassis. Because of the two-stage hydrostat we are now able to drive two different speeds: the working speed from 0 to 11 km / h in the 1st stage, the travel speed from 0 – 20 km/h in the 2nd stage
We were also able to maintain the rather wide angle of centre articulation angle of 55° as a guarantee for a maximum of manoeuvrability.
Just for information: the model name provides information about the maximum height of shovel pivot pin of the lifting boom.
The abbreviation L / S / H means:
2438 L: short lifting boom on a low front chassis for high tipping loads at a relatively low maximum height of the shovel pivot pin = 2.21 m
2438 S: Standard lifting boom on a standard front chassis for normal tipping loads at standard heights of the shovel pivot pin = 2.76 m
2438 H: Longer lifting boom on a standard front chassis with a minor decrease in tipping loads and for better heights of the shovel pivot pin = 2.94 m
