The Thaler-Lader 3448 L/S/H -5A is our most rewarded loader in the proper sense of the word, because the unique steering system, a combination of the centre articulation steering mode and 4-wheel steering system in 1 loader, represents far-reaching further development in terms of safety at work and tipping loads. Three different competent juries of the following innovation competitions were following our logic and argumentation and attributed their innovation awards to our 5-Axis-Loader as we call it:
- Galabau in Nuremberg-Germany in autumn 2018 – a show around landscaping and gardening
- Equitana in Essen-Germany in spring 2019 – a show around the needs of horse keeping farms
- Sommet d’Or, innovation medal at the Sommet de l’Élevage trade fair in F-Clermont-Ferrand in early October 2019 – a show around cattle breeding
Explanation: With a standard articulated loader, we have reduced the angle of the centre articulation to 20 ° and replaced the 2 rigid axles by 2 axles with 4-wheel steering system. So we get a wheel loader with centre articulation steering and 4-wheel steering system in one, we call this type of steering: 5-axis steering system, = ….-5A, the abbreviation at the end of the model designation.
The main feature of the 3448-5A with SPS is the common use of all advantages offered by both modes of steering systems (4-wheel steering and centre articulation steering) in one and the same loader.
Technical details:
- Rigid centre articulation with a reduced angle of articulation to 20° and an oscillating axle in the rear
- All steering modes in the 4-wheel steering individually switchable: front wheel steering, all-wheel steering, crab steering
- Combinations of the two steering modes (4-wheel steering and centre articulation) are also possible and in certain situation even recommended
Positive consequences for operational safety in work with the loader:
For the wheel loader category of almost 3 tons empty weight with 48HP and a total length of 4.2m without shovel unbeatable manoeuvrability when 4-wheel-steering system and centre articulation are working simultaneously: inner radius of only 720 mm
For comparison: a standard 3448 with only a centre articulation angle of 55° (already a big one) - inner radius 1210 mm:
- Minimization of the change in tipping loads to almost 'ZERO' due to the reduced angle in the centre articulation of only 20°. Background: minimized movement of the centre of gravity of the rear wagon towards the front chassis (= shortening of the lever) by only 79 mm, that is only 3.5% of the total length of the lever (middle of front axle to rear), it represents vanishingly small changes in the tipping load of the loader.
- The oscillating axle in the rear of the 3448 increases even the stability, as the break in lever break (moment of wanting to tip over to side) comes later with an articulated loader with a pivoting rear axle than with an articulated loader with a pivoting centre articulation.
For the operating staff:
More safety at work for the operator and the machine, because with the 3448-5A with the SPS (Secure Power Steering) allows the active selection of the steering mode, either as a single steering mode or a combination of several steering modes, depending on the requirements of the work and the nature and topography of the ground.
The selection of individual steering modes: 4-wheel steering, front axle steering, crab steering and articulated steering alone or a combination of 4-wheel steering mode together with the centre articulation to gain agility.
More safety at work for the operator - depending on the individual experience and the qualifications of the operator.
- Experienced employee who is familiar with machines and loaders = all types of steering, also in combination
- For the young trainee without machine experience = 4-wheel steering alone or only the front axle steering mode

Manufacturer: Yanmar - 4 cylinders with 35.4KW or 48 HP
Compliant with EU emissions standards level 5 = Stage V with common rail injection technology, EGR and exhaust gas treatment with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a diesel particle filter (DPF), but without Ad-Blue. Everything, including the regeneration, is managed by the Yanmar’s ECU.
Exhaust gas treatment system granted for 6000 maintenance-free operating hours = Yanmar’s proper trust and confidence in their own exhaust gas treatment technology.

The abbreviation L / S / H means:
3448 L: short lifting boom on a low front chassis for high tipping loads at a relatively low maximum height of the shovel pivot pin = 2.76 m
3448 S: Standard lifting boom on a standard front chassis for normal tipping loads at standard heights of the shovel pivot pin = 3.13 m
3448 H: Longer lifting boom on a standard front chassis with a minor decrease in tipping loads and for better heights of the shovel pivot pin = 3.33 m
